An invited guest to an Atlanta-area apartment complex was shot multiple times during an early morning carjacking. Despite evidence that illustrated a history of violent crimes at the property, management had inexplicably fired their courtesy safety officer not long before the near-fatal incident. Further evidence showed the community’s access gate frequently didn’t work, and combined with poor lighting, the community became an attractive target for potential criminals. We were able to demonstrate the manager’s and owner’s negligent security liability and negotiated a confidential $5.1 million settlement that will allow our client to begin building a new life. We also demonstrated that it is less expensive to address security concerns proactively, rather than pay millions in the wake of a foreseeable tragedy. It’s part of our effort to help Make Atlanta Safe.
